Sea Otter 🐚 a forever favorite! I saw a bunch of these cuties in Morro Bay this weekend. They also represent a remarkable success story. Nearly hunted to extinction for their fur a California state law in introduced 1913 banned hunting and from there their numbers slowly rebounded. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 also strengthened protections. It’s also worth mentioning sea otters help kelp forests thrive by consuming urchins, which in some areas are seriously damaging kelp forests. We’re all in the together and change can happen. Today, organizations like @seaottersavvy are dedicated to raising awareness of and protecting these animals 💙 #conservation #marinebiology #seaotter
